Public Arena Data Use

Effective August 5, 2026

The plain-language version

Arena submissions are research data. If you Generate, WriteArena may retain the submitted writing task, optional draft and context, all model outputs, your choices, follow-up lineage, and technical evaluation metadata. After reasonable de-identification and safety filtering, WriteArena may publish, sell, or license that data and resulting benchmarks commercially.

What may be included

  • Prompts, instructions, source drafts, audience, tone, and constraints.
  • All four generated candidates in each battle.
  • A/B/Tie decisions, “Both need work,” display order, timing, abandonment, copying, and follow-up choices.
  • Model, provider route, harness, benchmark era, token, latency, and cost metadata.
  • Derived ratings, confidence intervals, categories, quality flags, and revision trajectories.

What is excluded from licensed datasets

We do not intend to include your Google account identifier, email address, raw IP address, authentication data, security secrets, or private model reasoning. We may include a random or pseudonymous contributor key when needed to measure independent-user reliability and multi-turn lineage.

Permitted commercial uses

Data may be used and sublicensed for model evaluation, model training and improvement, safety research, preference modeling, retrieval and ranking research, benchmark publication, product development, and other analysis of writing quality. Licensees may be AI developers, researchers, enterprises, and the public.

Safety and quality controls

Automated and human review may exclude suspected fraud, extremely fast voting, personal data, secrets, unlawful content, or other material unsuitable for release. Inclusion in a benchmark snapshot is recorded immutably so published results can be reproduced.

Deletion

You may request account deletion at privacy@writearena.ai. We will remove identifiable account data and future dataset eligibility where reasonably possible. Material already included in an irrevocably published, licensed, aggregated, or de-identified dataset may not be retrievable or removable.
